Might be buying this computer little help?

I can get this for $500 bones does that seem like a good deal??

D915PBL Intel Motherboard
Pentium HRT Processor (runs dual virutal 2.8ghz processors)
4gigs PC 4200 Ram
EVGA Geforce 7600GT Video Card
Realtek On-board HD Audio
Wi-Fi network card
DVD-RW Drive
120gig HD Western Digital
Windows XP Home Edition-Disc Included
-Adobe CS2 Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, Etc.)PRE-LOADED NO DISCS
-Macromedia 8 Suite (Dreamweaver, Flash, Fireworks, Etc)PRE-LOADED NO DISCS

All of this is in a full size Antec server tower. The tower is modded with a switch panel on top in order to control the case fan speeds. There's room for 5 CD/DVD Drives, 4 Hard drives, ETC.

To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad.

I'd shop around and see what else you can get for the price. A 2.8P4 HT isn't much now a days, the video is nice but the hard drive is lacking. Ram is good but cheap/slow stuff.

I picked up a 3.0HT P4 off here with a total of 1TB in a nice big heavy duty case for almost half of that.

I need to find a decent pc that can play WOW but will mostly be used for home data work so it doesn't have to be all bad ass, and would like to have a decent dvd burner on it as well, any help would be great

I run WoW with a good frame rate and my pc is a few years old. I have an amd 3700 processor, 1 gig of ram, and a Nvidia 6200. Shouldn't be too hard/expensive for you to do.

I think he meant Pentium 4HT which were the first attempts at multiple core and its one core but windows sees it as two. Still an older CPU as there have been the Pentium D, Core 2, Core 2 Duo, etc.

I have both a 3.0 HT P4 and a 2.4 Xeon with HT and can't say its the same as my dual core amd.

HA! I'm about to a have a cert he won't have (CCVP). 4x CCIEs...or even 1...sort of over rides that accomplishment. hehe

There was one site for a 4x CCIE...was a cool site. Dude had a basement and it was basically a data center. It had its own AC, UPS...etc. The site was interesting to read and all that.

Stang2be...I got ya! Makes more sense that way...basically, it is what I have in my 5 y/o PC. hehe

Yup, that's it. Dude is a consultant and does demos out of that house IIRC...so I can fully understand that. The cool rack seems like the far left one though, and nothing is plugged in. I'd take that 4500/6500 looking chassis though.

There is a lot more than just a server(s). What you are looking at is more like an entire datacenter(s) simulating quite a few scenarios with a variety of media interconnections, firewall/security solutions, and who knows what all else.

Check the guys page for the details

In short cause it helps him maintain the ability to charge 300-600 dollars an hour...or more. What you see is no different then someone who owns a framing company having 3-4 generators...20 hammers...saws...trucks...etc. Tools of the trade basically.

Also, it is not "a server" there are probably 20-30 different pieces of equipment in those racks for different things.

Edit: Makes that 50-70 different things. Counted 20 in the first 2 racks.

I have no plans to go that nuts on the network gear but I've got 6 pcs in my house.

1 for the wife
2 for the kids
1 file server/app server/vm server
1 linux/testing box for me
1 my main workstation/gaming rig

I also use it to learn/test at home to keep up with the ever changing industry of IT security/risk mgmt/compliance
