Wireless Internet Connectivity

I have been having issues with my wireless internet on my laptop not working consistently. I know it is not my internet service provider or my router because my desktop is working fine. For example, I will log on to the laptop, open IE and navigate to 2 or 3 webpages and then it quits working. It says I am connected with full signal strength but it is not working. It is really frustrating! Is my wireless card going out? Any suggestions on what the issue may be?

TIA!

PS As a matter of fact it did it while I was trying to post this thread… I clicked submit and nothing… ugh!

Update the driver or remove and reinstall the driver? Might help to post the laptop you are using

What type of router? Are you connected using a WEP key? Does your laptop say "limited or no connectivity" when it happens?

The other desktop, is it connected via ethernet or wireless as well?

I guess that's one thing I didn't consider, the wireless portion of the router crapping out.

Have you looked into reloading or updating the wireless drivers?

Linky

Oh, and if you want to test the router I've got both an extra B and G Netgear router you can borrow to see if it makes any difference or not.

What kind of router do you have. I had same type of issue. I'll lose connection, but when I check the connectivity, it's all good. It ended up being my router(piece of shit 2wire). Ended up getting a Netgear. Works x200's better, hasn't dropped yet.

Not sure then. I have had mine for about 2 years, no problems. Has this just started happening, or been going on just got tired of it. How far away is the router from laptop/360 and is there alot of interferance(sp) like walls and such?

well the 360 is wired to the router about 10ft away and the lap top is wireless. Her pc is also wired to the router and she has no issues with the pc. I have tried using different ports and also tried a new 360. The new 360 worked for about 3days and then started doing the same thing the old one was doing.

+1

2.4 ghz phones often interfere with most wireless routers.

truthfully with those older netgears, you'd be suprised what a firmware update will do

K...cable from xbox to router - check

Laptop wireless - check

PC wired to Laptop - WTF?! Why?

If you're having problems with the XBOX....it's likely not going to be an interference thing. PC does or does not have problem?

Hey April, it sounds like the wireless side of your router is going bad. You may want to try a fireware upgrade via your routers website...this may fix the problem. Im glad to hear that your not having bad luck with our service.

Me too! We ended up buying a new, better router that will allow me to surf the net while he plays Halo without glitching... works like a charm!
