Thumbs down Alright... let's discuss this !#$ing Guitar Hero thing.

Is this the most retarded shit ever?

I see people buying whole game consoles, all these different versions of the game, different guitars (or covers?) just so they can stand in front of a TV for HOURS AND HOURS and press the little buttons as the coins appear on the screen.

Please help me understand the mass hysteria behind this thing. It reminds me of the Macarena, and in six months everyone playing it is going to look just as dumb.

I played it for the first time at White_lightning's party (well, Rockstar, but same thing). It is actually a really fun game even though it is really pretty basic. It's like Dance Dance Revolution for us lazy people who don't want to jump around.

We got one of the Guitar Hero games for the buys for Christmas and I can't wait to give it to them so I can play it.

Never played it. It cracks me up that they have it set up in every store that sells the game, and you see people posted up playing it all serious like. Half the time they are over 18. At least it's introducing kids to rock and roll, which is something they can't really get on the radio around here anymore.

I'm waiting for the rap version, Bling Bling Hero. There will be a button on each piece of icy hot jewelry, like a watch, chain, grill, pinky ring, etc. You'll have to rap about yo shit and point at each piece in time with the verse.

I made fun of it every chance I got... until I played it. Now I want a PS3 just so I can have Guitar Hero again (and for the new Gran Turismo )

It is. A friend of mine has it for PS3 and a group of us played it this past Friday night. We were able to unlock a few songs but not all as we hit a road block as we don't have anyone that can play drums proficiently at medium, much less Hard. it kicks much ass though.

Dude.. you're banging little colored buttons on a fake plastic guitar.

How gratifying could it possibly be?

I'd be much more impressed if there were millions of people picking up REAL guitars and learning to play. You're not developing talent or anything, you're wasting an assload of time.

Its a video game Danny, stop being a fucking dipshit. ALL GAMES ARE A WASTE OF TIME. People know that when they play them. Its just like drinking is a waste of time or racing cars or whatever else it is that people do. I for one think its a stupid game, but if other people like it all the better. 90% of the shit we do in life can be classified as wasting time, at least some people have more fun than others doing it.

I'm sure he doesn't have the coordination to even beat the beginner levels, of course I'm sure he will throw out the jock response of "IM AN ATHELETE". Isn't Danny in his early 40's?

hand eye coordination danny... and as jluv said, an introduction to some great rock tunes. Other than that, it's a game, no different than shooting people and stealing cars, or playing football. Your "go out and learn the real guitar" can be said for any video game, go out and learn to throw a football, go out and learn to jack cars, and slap bitches, go out and learn to snipe people... But in the end, it's for entertainment. I haven't played yet, as I'm just not willing to spend the money on it, 150 bucks for Rockstar is crazy, and even 100 bucks for Guitar Hero is a little much for me. I'll probably end up getting an older version used, to mess around with.

I haven't touched it.

Have you seen how stupid a grown man looks when he plays this game? Go to any Fry's or Wal-Mart and just look at them lined up, just waiting to get their clammy hands on that little fake guitar.

What if learning fake guitar is a jumping off point that inspires many more kids to pick up real guitar in the future?

I can play 1.5 instruments (yeah, there's a half in there ) and you're right, it's not the same. In the end, it is just a game.

Along the same lines though, do you get aggrivated with people who play games like Gran Turismo instead of getting in their car and going to Skip Barber or any other racing school? What about grown men who play Madden instead of signing up for a local team?

Go to best buy, some of them have rock band set up. If anything, you can pick up one of the guitars. They made them differently to feel more like a real guitar. and they have 5 extra fret buttons at the bottom for solos (don't have to strum when using them for designated solo's). And you want to see someone get into that game, watch me play the solo to "Wanted Dead or Alive", lmao.

Well, one BIG difference is that a real car costs several thousand dollars, and real football can get you hurt.

A real guitar to learn on costs less than this game!

But yes, I do get aggravated by people that spend hundreds (thousands) of hours bullshitting on video games. I've got a brother that tops that list.

Yep, Guitar Hero I was released Nov 2005.

I don't have GH or RB but I can appreciate the fact that REAL guitar sales have skyrocketed since 2005. I personally prefer spending my time on my Epiphone Dot or Breelove but I've got nothing negative to say about GH.

I'm betting I'd get addicted if I start playing. That's probably a good reason for me to not even try
