yes. I would get a can of compressed air and just remove the dust inside of it.

Yes, they are extremely under ventilated ( which is why so many die ). I've seen kits that add an extra fan, I would invest in it if you want to keep the xbox more than 6 months.

microsoft increased their warranty on all xbox 360s to 3 years so i would just wait for it to break and then send it off. no reason to buy a new one. i've heard it takes about a month to get the xbox back. when it breaks go and buy one at Circuit City/ Best Buy and return it when the repaired one comes in. they are readily available in the store so you won't have a problem getting one.

i think you get 30 days to at return game consoles at these stores but it might be 14 days. If that is the case buy at one store and return, then go to the other store and do the same.

or spend the $10 - $20 on a freaking cooling fan and not have to deal with shipping, and gas to the store...

Topical of a xbox. I would get him the ps3 and just send the xbox in for warranty work when it fails.

I would either get a cooling kit or just wait till it goes out, 360s seem to run hot but sounds like yours is extra hot

A good fix but also a good way to throw away that extended 3 year warranty from Microsoft.
