Running multiple gaming consoles

Sup,

I need halp. I have a ps2, xbox, vcr, cable tv, dvd player, and a computer with svideo out. What is the best way to combine all of this stuff into one single audio/video controller so I don't have to get up and switch stuff manually every time i want to conveniently play a video game, watch old videos or view discovery channel?

all I did was get a bunch of Y cables and basically created a tree till it was down to one cable for each input...

To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad.

86 the dvd player to reduce redundancy.

Scrap the VHS and convert all VHS tapes into β and plug the PS2 into the line in on the SuperBetamax0rz.

The internet God still has a VCR?

You need to buy a video "router", per se. You can pick them up @ Fry's/Wal-mart for around $19.99. It allows you to plug up to 4 or so inputs and then connect the 1 output to the TV. You'll just have to push 1-4 on the video router when deciding which you want to play.

all you need is something similar to this http://www.ebgames.com/product.asp?product%5Fid=801888

I know i saw one at best buy one day that had an RF remote and you could switch it like a lazy ass from the couch... but it was about 3xprice of the normal switches.

Why don't you already have one? Do you have an 8 track player too?

They've done studies you know.... 60% of the time, it works every time

I have the 5way switch for my stuff, but it doesn't have a remote. I got it at Radio Shack for 20 bucks I think. But I'm lazy, and might upgrade to something with a remote soon.

I always figure out AV stuff out as I go, like you...

Typically I find exisiting answers on avforums.com, but here is the Oracle's input on some as well...

http://www.google.com/search?q=audio...x=&startPage=1

With that said, everyone seems to have missed the ...so I don't have to get up and switch....part of your post.

I don't have all those things you do. I have...
-DVD Player
-Receiver
-CD Player
-STB
..as my core devices. I bought a Harmony 890 remote awhile ago. The 880s...etc are good too, but you don't get RF with them.

Basically, via some stupid ass software on that's loaded on a laptop/PC you config the remote to basically run macros. So, on the main screen you'll have...(Just examples)

Watch TV
Watch DVD
Listen to CD
Play XBOX (or whatever)
Play PS3
Play....etc.

You press button for that activity and it'll switch through the various tv, receiver...etc settings and you're done. It's not flawless, but it works 99% of the time. I like the RF portion so you don't have to worry about pointing it just right and all that.

The only thing I can see that could f it up...is if you don't have enough input/outputs on either your TV or receiver. However, I suspect you do and their are ways to work around it.

IF this is not what you're looking to do - you'll need to post better details since I have no idea what you're wanting to do past that.

Take care,

I totally forgot about RF, i don't want an IR remote, thanks for reminding me.

I'm not looking for some cheap solution, I want it to be hassle free, if i want to play ps2 when i'm playing xbox, i just want to hit a button and pick up a different controller, not get up and walk across the room to do whatever.

I'd just get a bad ass receiver.

can be accomplished with any mid-level receiver with audio and video inputs on the back. just go to any electronics store, ask some questions, then come home and buy online.

IR remotes suck. the x360 universal remote has to be aimed directly at the thing with nothing in the way to work makes it a PITA to watch HDDVD's

If you're looking for ease and controller button pushing, than you just need to get a A/V receiver. Get one with component/hdmi's though, for future use. You can get a nice one for what you want for under $200 easily.

Got any links/examples/recommendations? Just curious what they look like/do...etc. I could google it, but I want to be sure I'm checking out the right thing.

Sure, for examples sake: $149 and under my budget above and PLENTY, probably a little overkill for what he has now. Nice piece, too. I just setup a simple surround sound my friends with this one.

Fry's is actually cheaper than online in this case.

That one is pretty cheap for what it's capable of.
