All depends on how much traffic you will be drawing and how experienced/know how you have...

If you are starting out low and have some Interweb knowledge, you could start out someplace small like http://geckofrog.net/ . I use Gecko Frog b/c I know the owner and it's one of the cheapest out there (plenty to choose from.) You may want to post up what your overall goal is in building this website so we can better point you in the right direction.

I use http://www.ipower.com/ipower/index.bml

Very cheap and tons of space (300 gigs storage, 5000gig transfer a month, 2500 e-mail accounts). They had a massive hack about 3 years ago that edited everyone's index.html files and during Katrina my site went down for a day but other than that I haven't had any outages in 4 years.

You might check out 1and1.com. Starting at $3.99/month.

I also use dreamhost, good webhosting.

FUCK Ipower, I used them when I owned my WISP for my website and all my customers email, they fucking deleted all the email accts by accident one evening and could not recover them. I lost several customers due this and the email allways going down.

Yes they are cheap but there support sucks ass.

use yahoo webhosting for my site. http://smallbusiness.yahoo.com

not the cheapest but very user friendly..

get a good ftp program and it's a breeze.

they allow php and other server driven scripts and give you unlimited databases in mysql..

also gives you several options for online stores.. i just add my own though

I use yahoo and gmail so their e-mail hasn't been an issue.
