You can get a 19" LCD monitor, a gig of ram, 80 gig HD, a fully licensed OS and a warranty for $349 with free shipping. It's a far stretch from being a badass system but compared to your 8 year old setup it'll be a massive upgrade.
A legit copy of XP is $199, the cheapest 19" monitor out there will be $150 or so. Just with those two pieces you are already cheaper to buy. Throw in the hard drive, ram, keyboard, mouse, case, power supply, CDRW drive and assembly and it's a no brainer.
theres a reason why its cheaper....
MoBos are an easy/cheap way to cut corners. XP is only $150 and i think they might have lowered the price to $100 and you can also install on multiple PCs as in the Dell version only to that one computer. most dell, hp, and sony (and all that other shit) are really hard if not impossible to upgrade anything at all... that alone turns me off
as long as you get good deals and dont go buy things at sticker price you can build a bad ass computer for a good price
just from the Fry's ad on black friday (most of which i bought to rebuild my comp)
-19" lcd $80
-2 Gb DDR2 Ram for $40
-300 Gb SATA hard drive $50
-256mb video card $0(free after mail in rebate)
-Intel Core Duo Quad processor and MoBo package $200 (i got the MoBo upgrade for $50 more though...)
