Windows Vista

Well, I made the leap......almost. I purchased Windows Vista Ultimate a few days ago, but I am still weary on installing it. I know my system can support it, since I do a major overhaul once every 6-months or so. My question is for the people that have used Vista or have Vista and are currently using it. What kind of problems have you guys been having? Do you find its working better than what you had before? I just don't want to install it and it not work worth a shit

So, you bought it, and THEN decided to ask questions?

x2

Its flashy (with the windows tab and soft colors), but it hogs resources, shit is moved around, menus have changed...it just sucks in general. I tried formatting my laptop that came with Vista to put XP on it and I couldnt get it to work. Im stuck with Vista on the laptop. Id return that thing and save your money.

I got it on a school license fee, so all I paid was s/h to my house. so bashing me for paying for it is pointless. And no, you cant borrow it. thanks for all the advice

I can't get Nero to work with it at all, probably because I went with the 64 bit version. Once you disable the setting that asks for approval to do anything it's not too bad. Mine installed and works with everything I had on my PC other than the sound card, had to do some searching for realtek HD drivers.

I like it better for my purposes than XP pro. It's like server 2003 with an easy to use interface.

There's a Vista update on the Nero website that should get you running. I had to update mine as well to get it working in Vista.

I resisted using it for a long time, but we're getting more and more laptops at work with it installed, so I figured I better get one for myself so I can support them. The only issues I've had so far are getting my printer to work (new HP all in one, updated drivers do not like this laptop) and the card reader drivers were missing completely (installed, no issues now). It's a Toshiba laptop running Home Premium and 4 Gb of ram. I've got the upgrade to Ultimate ready to go so I can get it on the domain.

Overall, it looks like MS changed things just to say they changed them. It takes a little getting used to the new menus and locations, but other than that, I like it just fine. Be interesting to see if the 2008 Release will be a new OS or merely a service pack.
