Halo 3 System Link

I know with the xbox you had to use a cross-over cable, but with the 360 (i think i read somewhere but can't find it) you can use the regular ethernet cables, correct? Also, with system link, if you are able to use ethernet cables can you connect the systems directly to each other (2 systems) or do you need to use a Hub or router (obviously with 3 or more u'd need a hub or router)?

I would just get a switch or a router and do it that way. 10x easier.
