Anyone build laptops?

Running vista on the computer now and its driving me nuts because of how slow it is and stuff is moved around. Im worried about formatting because of drivers needed for XP. Im mostly worried about the drivers for the wireless network card, touchpad, keyboard, and graphics card.

Anyone have suggestions? I called Toshiba support and they said "if its not on the support website for your model number, we dont have it". They were worthless.

My buddy has a laptop with vista... it takes a good 3 minutes to load into windows from startup. IMO that sucks.

List the manu of your equipment.

like Linksys for your network card and shit.

If you surf their sites, you can get drivers from there instead of shit face Toshiba.

^ +1, without 2 Gb of ram, Vista is painfully slow. I'm running 2 Gb on my Toshiba (A215) with Vista Premium and it's as speedy as my last XP laptop was.

I did... I ran vista for a couple months now and got as much crap off as I could. It was still slow. When I was running vista + firefox, I would be taking up a full gig of ram. Thats ridiculous

no shit.

get all the goddamn trial software out of the computer.

and I know no one in here who "knows" about computers doesn't care for geek squad, but we did a test of two identical computers at work today, one with our optomization and one wihtout, and the one with was running at 200 mb of ram usage at idle and one without ran at about 500-600 mb of ram usage at idle. also, windows media player pulled up 6 seconds quicker and iexplorer pulled up 4-5 seconds quicker.

i could care less about best buy since i'll be done there in a few days, but the shit really does work.

I'm prolly mistaken but wasn't Microsuck trying to copy Apple and the way their OS's use memory for apps. Something about it loads the app into memory for quicker execution or opening of the app.

Listen to my buddy, Jeff Bolton, from 6-9 AM Mon-Fri.

Think you need to format/reinstall your OS(XP), read this first.

I am running vista prem with 1 gig and have no problems other than wmp 11. I did the black viper safe and went from a blank desktop running 680meg ram to the same using 425 meg. With 3 apps running, streaming music online and surfing the internet i use about 680meg now. I do plan to install another gig in the future so I can run some 3d modeling software as soon as it is vista compliant.

Iíve been building my own computers for about 10 years now and Iíve always had problems with mismatched memory. Iíve always thought that you were at least supposed to run two chips with the same type and size of memory. At least thatís my .02. I would try taking out the 512 chip and see if it resolves any of your issues, itís not going to fix your driver issues obviously, but it might make your computer stop running like a piece of shit.

most of ya'll have absolutely no clue...

I've running 1gig of ram on my laptop with vista premium, and 768mb on my desktop running Vista Business with Office 2007. And it flies. Hell the video card is only a 128mb as well.

Turn off all the bells and whistles crap that you don't need. Stop running your gay programs and downloading porn, using limewire, etc. Because you have no reason to be downloading stuff as computer illiterate as you seem to be when it comes to computers.

nigga please... I have built dozens of computers over the last 10 years... Im not illiterate when it comes to computers. Vista is a fucking hog on resources. Look anywhere and it says it is. The only things running are vista, and a program for the wireless networks. I used blackvipers setup to get rid of all the extra services and shit running. Also googled all the services that I can see running to see what they do. If I dont need them, they have been deleted.

Can your smart ass explain why drivers such as the video card driver didnt load in XP? I downloaded the driver straight off ATI's website for XP. Also did the same for the Realtek ethernet card driver, Atheros wireless driver...the shit didnt work. Im tellin ya, theres some shit I dont know about with computers like RAID, but I know how to build computers, setup networks, map drives, load and OS. The shit didnt work. And vista still sucks
