Computer Lockup Issues

At least once a day my computer will lock up out of nowhere, usually it is when I go to myspace but it happens on any webpage eventually. I've had it also freeze just looking around my folders occasionally. My question is that could my hard drive starting to fail cause this? The reason I ask is that every so often the hard drive will click/beep. In any case the lock-ups piss me off and I have all updated drivers. Specs are as follows - AMD Athlon 64 3700, EVGA GeForce 6600 256MB DDR, Gigabyte K8U ULi ATX, 100gb Maxtor Quickview SATA.

If a hard drive is making clicking sounds, its time to replace it.
