Shit that won't delete???

What would be the cause of something not being able to be deleted out of a folder? I have a few programs, some music, a couple movies and videos and for some reason I can't delete. How can you get rid of stuff like this?

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel, "Pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land." Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said,"Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a camel, this is the Promised Land." Now Obama has stolen your shovel..., taxed your asses, raised the price of camels and mortgaged the Promised Land!

I've got the movie gladiator that I downloaded a long time ago that I can't get rid of. Along with a few games and some music too... is there any sort of cleaner program to get rid of these?

Like everyone else has said..

It's most likely because the file you are trying to delete is in use or being used by another program. Most of the time you can boot into safe mode and delete stubborn files.

I seem to have good luck with that approach.

I'll give the booting in SAFE MODE a shot. I dunno how those files would be in use though because I don't keep the game, music, or movies constantly running.

Ok so i got the CCleaner, ran it, cleaned up like 3500mb worth of crap yet several of the games and movies still won't delete... what's the trick for those?

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel, "Pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land." Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said,"Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a camel, this is the Promised Land." Now Obama has stolen your shovel..., taxed your asses, raised the price of camels and mortgaged the Promised Land!

Guess I don't know what you mean by format.... and the safe mode didn't work.

I usually boot from a cd rom with a safe windows environment and delete the files from there. You can create your own. Just google "Bart's PE" and follow the directions. There are some really nice plug-ins like a remote registry editor, virus scan and a handy tidbit that lets you reset passwords.

Buying dogs kills.

By chance are you sharing your music folder in .torrents or limewire. I don't think you can delete it if either of them are using it.

See I thought the same thing. I am using a torrent site and limewire but I can delete other mp3's and such. So i'm clueless as to why they wont delete.

Na fuck this....

Isn't this you earlier...

"Fuck that, i'd be spending a week trying to make a back up for all the programs i have on my hard drive."

?

Step one is spending the time to make sure you're backing your shit up. Imaging, file copies....backup program ....something.

With that said, and knowing you probably know more then the IT guys around here and won't listen to sound advice- do a google search on a proggy "filedelete" I think it is...

...it is some program that I used once that tries to delete a file, but it'll also try to find what's stoping it from being delete it and resolve it. Sometimes process explorer can help with these things too.

You really should do backups, thorough.

1. It's not if but when your shit is going to crash.
2. Sometimes it just makes more sense to start over with stupid OS troubleshooting.

Take care,

My '03 Sold.
