Getting the most out of your internet??

Ok so yeah it sucks that I have Time Warner cable for internet, but unfortuneatly FIOS isn't available in my area. So I've got the Motorola SURFboard 5160 cable modem that goes along with my service. I want to know what if anything can I do to optimize my internet speeds or connection? I don't think it's ever running at it's max capability.

Over five thousand years ago, Moses said to the children of Israel, "Pick up your shovel, mount your asses and camels, and I will lead you to the Promised Land." Nearly 75 years ago, Roosevelt said,"Lay down your shovels, sit on your asses, and light up a camel, this is the Promised Land." Now Obama has stolen your shovel..., taxed your asses, raised the price of camels and mortgaged the Promised Land!

How do you figure thats a bad connection? First figure out what you're paying for before you try and make any comparisons.

Pretty sure it's $29.99 a month. I was downloading some stuff last night and it was only at 30kb/sec or 30k/sec which didn't seem like a whole lot to me.

What bandwidth are you paying for? For that price I would assume one of the base tiers. That's not bad. I have Time Warner but I pay for the 10mb/1mb tier. My speeds are usually around 9800 down and 950 up.

There's nothing wrong with that connection and for the price you're paying, you're getting more value than just about any other provider..

Good speed.....keep in mind that the site you download from likely has more to do with the slow speeds you are seeing than your connection does.

I'm pretty sure i signed up for the next step up from the base service which is the 10mb/1mb tier.

Nope.

Base is 1.5 down, 384 up.

Next is 7mb down, 512 up

Then RR Turbo, which is 10mb down, 1mb up.

You have the middle one.

like said above, your shitty download speed probably has nothing to do with your service, it probably has everything to do with where you're getting it from.

Lets see here....

...T1s are great.

Maybe once you use MLPPP and put 6-8 of them together. Most high speed Internet connections at the house will whoop a T1 on DLs.

Now, things start getting a little fast at the DS3 level.
