Help removing Spyware/Malware

I can't get rid of this crap My nephew downloaded something 2 or 3 weeks ago and since than I've been getting popups and I haven't been able to clean it up.

Windows Defender, AdAware, Clamwin AV, and Spybot Search and Destroy have been unsuccessful in removing it. System Restore won't work I can't think of anything else other than to format and reinstall. Anybody else have any ideas?

You have to turn off restore, then remove the virus. Otherwise, it will keep coming back. If your virusscan can't remove it, google the name of the virus and find instruction on how to remove it manually.

I can thank my nephew for that. I've got a ton of porn on my other two computers and no problems with them. Just my guest computer that I hve in my living room that I'm going to have to lock down tighter I guess.

I'll try what's been suggested. I didn't know to turn off System Restore and I forgot to try Safe Mode.

Try www.trendmicro.com -> go to the free online services and select free security tools, and select the free housecall scan. I've had this scanner remove a crapload of bad stuff from various systems I have cleaned up.

I have a Guest account setup in WinXP and it prevents them from installing anything but not from downloading anything. What and where did you go to change the security policy to not allow any downloading?

You should reformat it, install the shit you want, then make a ghost image.

then when it fucks up, paste the ghost image and right back to normal!

Thats what the Dallas Colleges basicly do.

My problem. This is a Dell computer and I don't know if I ever got one or not but I do not have a restore CD So starting fresh isn't exactly an option right now.

This is awesome! I had cleaned my computer via System tools, run AVG antivirus software, run ADadware SE, and superantispy still detected two trojans and 60 counts of adware... my computer runs fast again...(booty dance)

This is what I've been trying to tell people forever. Do typical backups of the extra crap and bam, back to normal in an hour. My "gaming" pc is 4 y/o so I can't afford to run any AV/Spyware..etc crap. Hell, even this year or next when I get a new one I'm not going to - just gonna do it the way I've been doing it.

If you do financials and other crap, yeah run it regardless. Still does not hurt to image the PCs.
