Thoughts on MS Zune?

Woot has it for $150. About the (very good) price on a used iPod 30GB. Thoughts?

The fragile part (hard drive) is shared with the Ipod. You get an FM tuner and wifi with a slightly larger screen and it's not Mac compatible, other than that they are pretty much the same thing. Ipods have longer battery life but no built in tuner.

Damn... Still torn on getting this or not. Can't find a "good" iPod for this price and this is brand new. I've looked on both Craigslist and eBay and I could probably flip it if I didn't like it and get most of my money back.

Read some good and bad on this Cnet Review.

I have a Zune and love it. Only compliant I have is that the "shuffle" feature doesn't seem to shuffle my song very well. But for $150 it is well worth it.

I was surprised as well. I wanna say the number was lilke 60+K units. I debated to long on whether to get one or not and was researching if it was better than the iPod or not. I should have just bought it and flipped it if I didn't like it. Oh well

With electronics it is better to err on the side of caution. In a few months that unit will probably be available for 100...or something newer and better for 150. There is always time with electronics....just don't tell my wife that or I'll never get to buy anything.

I dunno, I noticed that also...

MY THOUGHTS ON IPOD vs. ZUNE

I have a PSP, a Zune, and an Ipod nano and the Ipod is my favorite of the three for music. The Zune is ok, but the size and weight it what I don't like about it. Also, there are so many products and add ons to my Ipod that I love (car and home adapters), and this is coming from a person who is not a big fan of Apple. Trust me, you will like the Ipod better. Also, the interface is WONDERFUL. Also, with iTunes, I can get the many podcasts that I like listening to and it manages the Ipod very well, but I am sure you could use just about any music player to manager your Ipod.

I have had just about every MP3 player out there (from cell phones to PSP) and the Ipod beats every one of them hands down. If you never own any Apple product, at least give the Ipod a try, you won't regret it

I have one and like it. Zune marketplace isn't as plentiful as i-tunes, but it is ok.

Mostly what I was looking at was cost. A brand new 30 GB Zune for $150 I'd be willing to try. If I didn't like it, I could flip it and make my money back.

The lack of an online store doesn't bother me. Same goes for accessories. I'm just looking for something with large capacity and a good GUI. Bonus does go to the iPod though since I can integrate it with my car stereo.

As it looks now, I'll probably pick up an iPod if the cost is the same (unless I find another good deal on a Zune).

I have one right here in front of me that I will sell to you for a bill right now. I got it as a gift and used it probably 5 times. I still have the original box/case/software/headphones etc. I just prefer to take my nano to the gym b/c it is smaller.

Will the Zune play ANY mp3?

The Itunes software doesn't let me import some mp3s.

Thanks Cliff for the hookup. Been playing around with the Zune for the past couple of days and enjoying it. Can't compare it to an iPod but for I'm needing it for and the price I got it at, I'm not complaining and it works great. About my only gripe so far is I couldn't get it to work with my Vista box but it seems to work fine on my XP box. Go figure. I'll probably try installing the software again this weekend and see if I can get it working there but most of my music and stuff I get on my XP box to save space anyway.

Are they MP3Pro? That's the only thing I can think of that may cause a problem. Because I've got about 11,000 mp3's, and 0 problems getting them imported to iTunes.

BTW Jose, 80GB iPod classics are $249 now, as of 9/05. Depending on how much space you need, might be worth looking into one and flipping the Zune. You can probably get a killer deal on a 5.5gen iPod Video 80GB as they try to clear stock of them to replace with the classics.

A guy at work had one, and kept wanting me to bring mine(now Jose's) to work so we could test it out... Of course I never remembered.

I'm seriously thinking about getting the 80 GB iPod Classic now. Being new to Media Players I never realized how much stuff I have Out of 30 GB I'm down less than 2 GB free. And that's not quite all of my music, most of my pictures, and a couple of TV shows.

Everyone around me that uses some kind of player has an iPod. No nearby Zune users for me

My only gripe so far (besides small storage that I'm finding out about now) is problems getting the Zune software to work in Vista. For some reason it's not detecting the Zune player
