Remote Access?

Can anyone recommend a good (free!) program to remotely access and control a computer (two different XP boxes). Couple of relatives of mine in East Texas just got broadband and computers and need help learning how to do things on there computer. I tried to explain to them how to do things but they just don't get it. Figured it would be easier if I can show them and be able to do some of the things for them on there computer. Any recommendations? I remember way back in the day I used to be able to use MS Net Meeting to do what I want. That's been over 8 years now so I'm looking for something current

At my work we use logmein.com. We have over 50+ customers on it. It works really well and its free. They also have many diffrent kinds of modules you can use. Once you setup the account you can send links to whoever you need too. Its pretty easy to install. PM me if you have any questions.

If you want to set it up from logmein.

I use RemotelyAnywhere which is made for logmein.

Its bad ass. Can do FTP, WWW everything. remote, transfer, you name it.

When I used to use VNC, my machine kept getting hacked. Fuck that.

Windows has terminal server built in. (mstsc - at the run command) The only problem is that the end user can't watch what you are doing.

If it is XP Pro, you can just use Remote desktop. You just need to know their IP address...

If they have a physical firewall, they are going to have to let you get through on port 3389...

Last time i checked MSN had a remote option on it....all for free. You just need to get them to DL MSN and create a user name.

I never had problems with it. I'll keep that in mind if I ever use it again.

What if they are NAT'ing their address, which one do you choose?

That's why I use. It works great and you can scale back the overhead by reducing what is displayed during the session.

This is what I'm looking for. Do you know if Vista has this functionality built into it? He's running XP SP1, would he have any problems connecting to me?

nope. It connects right in. Remote Desktop.

You'll need a static IP address, then you can set up a port on your firewall/router and redirect it to your computers IP address. Then you need to allow Remote Desktop connections in the firewall settings.

I work for a company in California and this is how I do it.

If you need help, PM me
