Video Editors, I need help

I have a .MOV file from a friend of mine and it is pretty dark. It is high enough quality that I should be able to lighten it up without hurting the look of the file too much. I have not ever done much video editing so when I opened Adobe Premier I was a little lost.

What would I need to do in Adobe Premier or Premier Effects 2.0 is to load the .MOV file and then get it lightened up. I got the file loaded and then dragged the effect on the file but that didn't seem to work. I wish Adobe would actually make their programs work the same.

in the effect controls, you will see brightness, contrast, saturation ect. Cranky the brightness and add contrast as needed.
