Alrighty, heres what i have
An AMD athlon processor 3000 (2.16GHz)
and 512 333MHz DDR SDRAM
and no video card i guess.
1. So, a few questions first, 512 is the amount of ram right? and 333mhz is how fast it is or something? Is there better 512's out there?
like i think ive seen 512's that are 400mhz.

2. Can i mix and match different speeds? like if i bought a stick of 512 400mhz, would it work with my 333mhz stick?
Should i just buy 2 new 512's? or 1 stick of 1 gig? damn it.

I also want to play HL2, CS source and DOOM3, and those will all require a video card.

3. A video card will go in the brown slot?

4. Can anyone reccomend a good video card for around $100? Is there different kinds connection wise?

I only have a best buy, and a comp USA in town, so the stuff would need to be avaible there.


5. I play alot of counter-strike, and DOD,
if i go to network connections, it says my speed is 100MBPS, is that good?

6. I always lag like crazy and my ping on DOD is around 300, would the video card help ping, or is that strictly connection speed?

7. Is best buy the best place? or would ebay be better, i see some cheap stuff on ebay.

looks like AGP. Speed mix should be ok but it will only run at the slowest speed. If you get a high powered vid card you may need a new power supply.

With the age of the system you might look at a new board/ram/cpu and video.

100 mbps is the connection speed, and is what mostly everyones will say. Your download/upload speeds are what determine if your net is good or not. When your playing DOD do you ping 300 on every server or just a certain one? I would suggest an Nvidia 6600 to 7600 for decent graphics under a hundred bucks and another 512 stick of ram would be pretty good for ya too. Heres a 7600 for $99 with $20 rebate and im sure you can find some cheaper. clicky And like he says you might have to get a new power supply with these upgrades since its an older system. Does your power supply say how many watts it is on the side?

On DOD, my ping is always triple digets. most will be around 50, and i will be 250-300, on all servers. I will play counter-strike, and it will be 150-200, which is wierd. I had a video card in this computer, but i took it out for some reason, and my girl tossed it, so i know some will work.

On your internet, is it running thru a router or just yourself?

Online or Frys will be cheaper.

I use corsair ram in my machines, the twinx series or whatever.

You will most likely need a new power supply, this 7600 says 300w power supply minimum. Those aren't too expensive and Hunt4m3x is right you'll prolly find best deals online and Fry's is good too they have alot of rebates.
