Anybody have long range antenna's for extended range pick up of DSL?

My mom lives in an area that is definately internet challenged. I am paying 300.00 a year for dial up that she rarily uses because it is a slow boat to hell. My sister lives by her (about a block away) with one house inbetween them. I am looking at these Hawking Long Range signal extenders. They claim up to two miles when paired up. You think this will work? Be nice to sponge off my Sis and free up 300.00 a year.

Everything I called about was about 50.00 per month. I just can't justify that price for internet.

If we encrypt it..........How would my mother be able to use it? Can you program the router to still pic up the incrypted signal?

100.00 per extender.

I would just set the router for WPA. Then with the antenna you should be able to see your sisters network. Then it will prompt you for the pass phrase.

speaking of the wrt54g, I've read that some of the "aftermarket" firmware versions that the power can be bumped up significantly through the interface...

I'm sure you could pick on of these up with a directional antenna and reach your goal.

You might want to just ask the house in between if they want to share the internet connection and you can setup a bridge between the two and not have to worry about all these bullshit hacks to get a shitty ass signal 9999999999 light years away.
