XP.

Linux = FTL. non-stable environment and security flaws out the ass! plus windows has a higher up time than Linux.

Personally i tried using mandrake and redhat as my primary OS and went back to windows. I think Linux has its place but right now its still now supported enough to be a main OS imo.

Unless your just wanting to play with something new and want to learn something different I'd just reload Windows and load up some good AV and Anti-Spyware software and be done with it.

But seriously, do some research and find if the programs or games that you use the most have a Linux version available. I use a program called Crossover that allows me to run some important Windoze programs in a virtual machine type setting. It works with a lot of Office type programs and it works with Quicken which is what my wife uses to track our finances. For word and exel stuff, I use the Open Office suite that was included with my Ubuntu 6.06 LTS.

One limitation of Linux that not a lot of people know when they decide to swap from Windoze is that there is no DVD playback capability built in. You have to go through a bunch of different programs and plug-ins to make it work. If you can read, you can get it done. Really not a big deal since I usually do my DVD watching in my living room but it can be annoying out on the road. If you have a really new computer, make sure that your hardware is on the linux hardware compatability list.

Be ready to invest some time if you decide to run Linux. You will do a lot of reading and research. It is like learning a foreign language. The reward for me is that I can tell Microsoft to fuck off and actually learn something that will help me further my career.

I work with linux server's all day and I used to run it as my desktop OS but I am running XP again because I dont want to fool with running some of my apps in vmware. If you keep XP clean it works very well, i'm a pretty big Microsoft hater too...
