how to convert .avi?

I've got a few .avi movies that I would like to put on a dvd cd that will work in dvd players. Anyone know how to convert .avi files to something that will play in dvd players? Thanks for any help.

pm me an email address and I can send you a converter from AVI to a VOB setup...then you use a burning program like Nero to burn a DVD video disc...

nevermind...found a place to host it

http://www.savefile.com/files/878487

just select the avi file in the source section
Choose the destination location to save the file
Select 4:3 in the aspect ratio
Select NTSC 29.97 in the Standard selection
click convert

I have never used the program to burn but I assume it works. I always use nero
