Does anyone do computer repair?

Our laptop is acting up and we need it to take to Vegas in less than 2 weeks. It powers up, but the screen won't turn on. I just hate to take it into Best Buy and pay them $80 just to look at it.

TIA

Leah

We used PC Doctor a while back and they treated us great. Came to our house pretty late at night too to get it back to us. I believe the owner's name was Cedrick.

It's a laptop so I can take it in anywhere, I was just trying to avoid paying for a diagnostic fee and just pay to get it repaired (if it's worth it). Chili bought it several years ago for something ridiculous-like $299 or something. I don't want to pay $80 to find out it's going to cost $100 to fix it. It wouldn't be worth it.

*edit*

I just unplugged it and brought it in here to look, turned it on and the screen was working, then after a few seconds, it went out again.

Right now, you can tell the screen is on, but it's not showing anything. Do you think it could be a simple fix?

Simple...as in swapping engines is simple for some...but not for me.

One likely problem is like a previous poster said. A lot of laptops use a very thin cable that is wide. It goes from the mobo to the screen itself. That is either broke or loose. Just take the laptop apart and check that out.

However, looking at the specs on that thing you're much better off dropping a few hundred on a new one.

Well, I took it to Fry's, had it looked at and it started working. I'm on it now-hopefully it will last until we get back from Vegas.
