Best SATA to USB adapter?

So whats out there? I need a quick and smart way to connect SATA and IDE drives via a USB port for data retrieval. Am tired of opening up the machine and slaving the target drive, it just takes too much time.

On a related subject I have had a few recent instances where I did this and the host machine assigned the target drive c:\ and the original host's boot drive as d:\

Not that big a deal as the drive was still accessible local and over the network but once removed, the original host drive retained the drive letter d: assignment. Machine would boot ok but would post a VBscript error during login and log you off immediately. WTF over? I havent found a solution yet other than reimage the machine, but alas, I digress......

So I'm looking for hardware solution to hopefuly avoid the above predicament. Has Fryes got a cheap adapter? Any recommendations of the ones online? Really didnt want the fuss of an external brick power supply.

Please comment

There are tons of different brands of USB2.0 - IDE/SATA external enclosures out there.

I got a couple of adaptec ones on WOOT! last year for 13.99 each.
