Where can I find a free linux OS?

And which one is the best. I would want a GUI interface version.

Listen to my buddy, Jeff Bolton, from 6-9 AM Mon-Fri.

Think you need to format/reinstall your OS(XP), read this first.

I run Debian. http://www.debian.org. Each distribution has lots of options for graphical interfaces once loaded. I use KDE for mine. Gnome is another popular one.

Hope this helps.

Curious what makes it good as a first one.

Using Fedora was a breeze and I'm not really smart or anything. So I was curious why Ubuntu...etc are easier since Fedora was easy too. ....Granted, I did not CLI a whole lot, but the GUI was cake.

Ubuntu community is very strong so lots of support/walkthrus. Out of the box it uses the sudo model and does not have the user logging in as root or with a credentialed account. There are several tools for it that make it a point and click to install typical linux desktop apps, codecs, etc.

I've also played with the ubuntu studio distro and thought it had some nice options too.

That Ubuntu Studio really caught my eye recently. I think I'm gonna throw that on a VM and play around with it sometime this week/end.
