Wireless router help?

We just had our cable/net hooked up at the new house. I'm trying to setup the wireless router, but it keeps telling me that there is "no connection detected"

The router is plugged into the modem and the modem is turned on and works.

The Netgear program has a diagram that is saying that I have to use a LAN port and have the router plugged into a computer???

Why do I need to plug it into a computer when I only want the wireless signal?

providing that the router and modem are connected properly, there are some other steps you need to take.

you have to have the network ssid (network name) and the wep security key in order to log onto the routers wireless network.,

the tech should have provided you with that information and helped you establish a connection before leaving the premise.

i would test your connection by first connecting an ethernet cable from the pc to the router and see if you can get online. then go into the router settings to look up your default network ssid and create a wep key. if the wireless security is disabled then all you need is the network name to log on.
