Thanks, Jakester.

yep, EVERYTHING gets logged.

I am an IT guy as well. Want to know how I get around it? We have a totally seperate wireless network that is for guests. It hooks straight to a dsl line and out. i disable my wired connection, hop onto that wireless and I am never logged. In other words, the IT guys know better than to try to go around it. If you have a laptop, go get you a data card from one of the cell companies and go out that way.

The easiest way around Websense is to be the Admin.

It's easy when you have this much free time. Being the admin is good.

Well, being the Admin is good, too. But if you're not the admin, try a proxy avoidance site, like http://www.freetoview.net/ . If that doesn't work, you will have to do something like SSH. But like mentioned above, it's not a good idea and most work places have no tolerance for that kind of stuff and you will get bitched slapped by RiSK for doing it.

If that was the case folks they would have shanked me along time ago.

Our dept runs very efficient and My work is literally done by 11am. I get in at 7am. I bust my ass and then do nada the rest of the day. So its boring and it sucks. I ask for extra work all the time. Since ive been working in this dept we've simplified stuff and it pretty much will run its own with the exception of the normal BS calls we get.

You've been given some good advice here. If you choose to not follow the rules that's your choice but the first time HR needs ammo to can some one guess where they turn to?

I'm also an IT guy but I work in an IT security group and get those calls to get logs/evidence of people being naughty to turn over to legal/HR.

How many of these threads are we going to get? What I really hate about my job is people getting fired over this stuff. At the same time I hate people doing wtf they want and causing more work for me with their dumb ass abuse of our network infrastructure. I also hate finding bandwidth problems and finding more of it to web surfing then work purposes.

I hate seeing people getting fired over information I pass to management/HR - but I hate that people can't save their high volume internet traffic for the house.

I am the same way.
Don't abuse it and more than likely you will be fine but when your manager wants you gone the first thing he will do is ask IT for the logs (if the reporting isn't already available to them). If that doesn't work expect them to get a peek at your email then finally a traffic analysis from your desktop. I always find it, there is no fool proof way around the monitoring unless you are in IT yourself. Having our own network has its advantages.

Here is the deal.... If you can fig out how to get "around" any kinda of websence or stuff to that effect you dont need out of it. The IT guys have set the network up the way it is for a reason, no for you to by-pass it. If your department is that efficient, and your done by 11am, go home, find more to do, go hit on the HR manager.
