Best deal on a laptop

Looking for a laptop around $700 range...just something for work. Anyone know of a good deal? I saw Dell has a Inspiron 6400 (dual core 1.7ghz, 2gb ddr, 120 gig or so and a 9cell battery for $50) and its $750 with battery. Anyone know anything better than that?

Any reason not to go with a dell?? We have always built our desktops, so never really purchased a computer. We do have an older Dell laptop my dad got from his old work and its ok... It will randomly shut off but its not a bad little laptop. The battery sucks but its a few years old.

Go to Dell.com and get the inspiron 6400. I have that same laptop. I did it on the power lease so I could write off the entire lease payment for my business plus I didn't have to come out of pocket to get it. $1 buyout at the end of the lease and it's mine.

Did the same thing for my new desktop as well.

I have an Acer with a 15.4" screen, I really don't like it because of the battery life... Now that I've been using it awhile I get 30 minutes max. But it was cheap $450 at newegg

I use mine for office stuff, and I really wish I had gotten an apple They are soo much cooler

Just FYI -- Dell is putting Vista on all new laptops. I don't want to get a new laptop, for that very reason. I'm just going to suck it up and keep what I've got.

As far as I'm aware, all computers Dell sells that are new, have Vista. XP isn't even an option (we just ordered 3 more, and that's what we were told). The refurb models are the only ones with XP.

You can go to the dell website and choose XP.

Not in my experience, a few weeks back.

We placed the order through Dell, and the rep told me no XP unless it's a refurb. I don't think he'd lie, considering our order of 7 immediately dropped to 3 when he told us only option was Vista on the new laptops.

Dell has started to allow XP on their computers again due to consumer backlash since most people's shit doesn't work with Vista yet.

They just changed that ..due to the huge amount of complaints

To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad.

What he said:

http://www.dell.com/content/products...bsd&sort=price

Click the "Customize" link, then "Customize with ... XP"

As other peeps have said, Dell took so much shit from users that they have begun offering XP once again (on _some_ machines).

Interesting. Looks like I'll be ordering a new Dell today.

Of the three laptops we did order, every single one has given the BSOD more than once due to Dell preloading software that isn't compatible with Vista (Adobe Acrobat, and a few other minor programs).

Dell changed the policy and will now offer XP also but if you go to the site the option is not available still on most units. Ordered two desktops today for family members and Vista was the only choice.

Dell is just sometimes or most of the time heavy...and every once in a while a lesser performer than others of the same weight.
