Suggestions for internet access to mp3 archive @ home

I'm considering a few different options, but what I'd like to do is have access to my primary music archvie at home while on the road, at work, etc w/o having to copy/make duplicates/dvd/cd ect.

1) setting up windows vpn to mp3 archive box

2) shotcast server on mp3 archive box - manage by building playlists and streaming them

3) ??

Maybe someone here is aware of another, less elaborate solution (perhaps some 3rd party client/server vpn application?

My coworker does orb for video, I didn't know there was an mp3 side of that as well. Will check that out. I'm not sure I follow you about the profit??

LOL never gets old

To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad.

Windows vpn = stupid and overkill
Shoutcast = stupid
?? = dont even know

Setup a webserver with a mp3 script, there is billions of them out there.

http://www.turnstyle.com/andromeda/ is probably the best one I know of.

What does Andromeda do? Andromeda scans your MP3s and presents them as a fully-featured streaming Web site. That means you simply add, move, rename, and delete files and folders to update the contents of your Andromeda-powered site. It's as easy as drag, drop, stream.

Everything is handled by a single PHP or ASP script. That means there's no need to fuss with SQL or install extra software on the server. And if Andromeda doesn't suit you for any reason, simply delete the script — no need for a sketchy "uninstall."

Ya it will do music/video/photo/ and the new shit that is going to come out will do even more. plus it can be accessed from anywhere and you can invite people into it so they can listen in or you can share private videos with them.

Orb is great, I use it all the time at work and on the go, as I have a phone with internet access I can access my Orb account via it and play music when I am at work or watch a video while taking a dump.

I'm testing out orb and I like it too so far. I am curious though if orb records/stores a db of its users stuff, for their own records. Will have to check the TOS some.

As far as I can tell it makes some kinda flatfile db on your system so it has an index of where files are. I dont think it sends stuff back home thought but it might you never know these days

Thats kinda my take on how it functions too. Slick little app/server, will have to use it some more to see how reliable/dependable it is. Played lots of stuff at work last night, it was great having access to the ~40G or so library w/o using any room locally.
