Wanna turn my xbox into a media center

I'm gonna pick up a 360 soon and thought i'd put my old box to good use. What's a relatively cheap and easy way to do so? Do i need a modchip, or can i softmod it? Also i think the cd drive in it is going out - anything off the shelf i can replace it with?

thanks

A soft mod will work but if you want to use it for storing files you'll need a chip and obviously a bigger hard drive. Executer 3 works good And no you need an Xbox drive to read Xbox games.

you can softmod it and upgrade the hard drive but it is a little more involved. Modchip would make the whole setup process much easier... install the chip slap in a 300gb drive. then formatwith slayers & install the xboxdash, download the latest xbox media center and ftp over. Bam done.

Yeah, once modded... I wouldn't take the chance. My 360 is for Live (and pc, now, yay), but the old school xbox never goes there for fear of the ban.
