Comp won't play DVD's..

I have Windows XP Home edition. I did all the windows updates avaliable and it upgraded me to service pack 2.

When I place a data cd or music cd into the drive, it works. When I place a DVD into the drive it does not. When i got click on the D drive, nothing shows.

I have the follwing type of DVD drive:
HL-DT-ST RW/DVD GCC-4241N

I have an HP Pavillion zv5000 notbook.

any sugesstions???

This will play DvDs sounds like you do not have a program to support the DVD player

To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad.

already downloaded that. for whatever reason it's not reconizing that a DVD disc is in there.

Do you have powerdvd or windvd installed?

it might be the disc as well

Have you tried different DVD's (is it just that particular DVD or all DVD's??) Also know that Windows doesn't have a TRUE DVD playing program outside of Media Player...have you tried opening up media player and playing the DVD from there or from other DVD playing software??

Yes, I have tried multiple DVD programs including Windows Media player and have also tried multiple DVD's. Still no worky.

...It appears you are not the only one with this issue, but I wouldn't expect anything less from HP

Is this laptop still under warranty?? B/C I'm about 100% sure you have a bad combo drive...
