rebooting computer erases profile in Windows HELP!!!

I rebooted my comp. a few days back, and it gave me some sort of error messaging once it came back up. It seems as though if i reboot my computer, it tells me there was an error with my profile. It kills all my preferences, my bookmarks, everything... I cannot restore them either. My desktop is reduced to basics, the background pic is gone, some programs lose all their saved info (media player, AIM, etc.). I am using Mozilla for a browser and windows XP OS. any ideas? I am afraid to reboot it again!

any ideas or thoughts?

Your profile is probably not gone... you need to login as local administrator and look in the C:\Documents and Settings directory. You should see a directory with your old login. All of your stuff is in there.

We have had this happen in the past, if your profile is locked when you try to login, it will default to that one.

If you want a simple check, try logging off and logging in with your old ID? It might be that simple. Of course, you need to find out what had the profile locked and I would definitely do a backup if you haven't recently.
