What format for dvd recording?

I have downloaded a bunch of movies that play showing them as a video clip. What format do they have to be in to be burned onto a dvd? And how do I do that?

the easiest one to use is convert x to dvd its not free but any of the p2p sites have a cracked version , dvd players play vob files but they also have to be authored and contained in a video .ts folder you can use a video converter like super from www.erightsoft.com and convert them to divx that fit on a cdr , and buy you one of those 30$ dvd divx players from walmart only thing is it will be like a vcr tape without chapters...

if you have a program like nero you can easily make a dvd with .avi or .mpeg and i believe it will also burn .vob dvd files.
