Vista

Anyone happen to be running Vista and any annoyances I need to know about? Thinking of getting the premium I think for my desktop. I do know I need to add another gig of ram.

No real glaring problems here.

I'm running Vista Home Premium.

If you install Nero, it does some crappy things to preview thumbs of videos. They show up fine, but will cause some various error popups when simply previewed. Other than that, it's been great, running Ultimate since Vista was released for corporate back in November.

Using Vista Business and it doesn't like to work with our virus protection. I tried installing Nero, but apparently, that version was too old. What version did you put on yours?

I can't use any version of Nero or Adobe and there are no drivers for my printer yet. My antivirus also didn't support it. Foxit takes care of pdf files and M$ has utilities for burning CDs, using a Kaspersky for AV right now and still no printer. Also had to upgrade my java client before Azureus would work.

Vista ultimate edition.

What virus programs are you guys running that won't work with vista?

Also, are you talking about just acrobat reader or another adobe product?

Adobe Reader 8 works fine for me. We've got McAfee Enterprise version 8 that won't work with Vista. I'm stuck using this Windows Defender for the time being.

Sad when a big company like McAfee can't get there software Vista ready in time for Vista's launch.

Whatever suite Yahoo offers with their DSL and just acrobat ready. I'm sure it's a registry key but I'm not gonna jack with those.

I want to say that they had one ready, we just haven't upgraded to the latest version in a couple years. Sucks that I can't find any trial versions of it anywhere. Looks like they're up to version 11 right now.

So far, Symantec's corporate AV works fine (latest and greatest, put out just for Vista, checks in with the standard console without problems), Nero's latest version (I believe it's 7.5.7.0?), Adobe Acrobat 7.0.9 works (even the printing feature, though the 64bit versions still don't). Alldata 9.0 works, MS Money works, I use SlySoft's Virtual CloneDrive for mounting images without issue. PSPWare works fine... you get the idea. Up to this point, the only things I've come across that don't work:

Nero's image mounting functions - no big loss
VPN clients, such as CheckPoint's SecuRemote

That's about it at this point.

We use Real VNC. Works great with Vista. I haven't messed with DameWare again yet, but Remote Desktop still works as well (that would be really pathetic if it didn't).

VNC/dameware/RDP aren't replacements, or even workarounds for VPN connectivity. Am I missing something?

I had to ditch vista cause it was killing my modem. It is NOT compatible with ZOOM modems. Other than that I had absolutely no issues out of it with any of the programs I ran. NOD32 was my antivirus program, had no trouble with Adobe, Ran reader, illustrator, and photoshop. Office 2007 Beta with no issues. Ultra ISO to mount and burn disk images. several other miscellaneous programs. Any data disks were burnt by transferring files in windows, and Media disks were made with media player 11. This was all on an early build of Ultimate RC1

Why not just get a new modem?

cause the damn thing was 80 bucks, I'd have to drive to dallas to get a new one, and I'd had it too long to take it back. It was the simplest solution.

VSE 8.5 enterprise is out and has been out and Vista compatible. No plans for patching 8.0 for vista.
