New Laptop: Opinions?

Ok, I've decided to buy a new laptop since the one I have now is around 6 years old and its a P3 1 ghz unit which constantly overheats.

I am thinking about buying this particular laptop:

Sony VAIO Laptop

Circuit City has it for $1,249, but since my Dad works for Sears Holdings Corporation, I can buy it through them for around the same price, minus 10% discount.

Anyone have any experience with Sony VAIO laptops? My experience with my Dell Laptop has been less than desirable.

depends on what you are wanting to do with said computer. I have been for many years using what most people would call obsolete junk to make money on Ebay selling things...and to occasionally watch movies at work while posting wirelessly on dfwstangs using a wireless card on a wireless network which I dont belong on. Dont waste your money on some high priced computer hoping it will do things that your previous computer cant do. I can do most things on my old Gateway P2 at 366mhz that most people think they need a 5k computer to do.

I really like the looks and features of the Sony laptops but I have had nothing but problems with them here at work. If you do some searching around I think you will find they have a very low reliability rating compared to some of the others.

The Dell laptop I have right now is around 6 years old. The plastic casing is starting to crack/fall apart and it overheats/shuts down after about an hour of usage.

i have a sony vaio fs-740w and it is a great laptop.

i just wished it had better battery life, but overall has a lot of nice features.

vaio's cost more than most with the same features, so i would consider shopping around because you can get the same features for less with different brand name.

i do really like the sony xbrite widescreen display.

it doesn't cause eye strain like some laptops.

vaio's are great, but there are cheaper alternatives.

If those are your only reasons for replacement, then you'll love this huge upgrade.

Just get that, maybe add another 512 of memory and you've got a pretty fast laptop for cheap and Toshiba is pretty good quality. I've had nothing but issues on each Sony Vaio product I've had. No problems with the Toshiba Laptop, HD-DVD player and other Toshiba TV I have.

The one I posted above. Circuit City had the best price on it I could find and they had 3 months no payments, no interest.
