Nope. Still waiting on my free copy of Vista Pro and Office Pro.

I'll run it as a virtual machine for a while before I'll consider it as my main Windows OS. IMO there isn't enough reason to upgrade to Vista. However, Office 2007 is a different story. Microsoft actually make some damn good improvements there. I can't wait to get the Mac version at the end of the year.

I'll do like I did when 2000/xp were becoming popular. Use them for work, get familiar with it but other stay with the tried/true OS. After it is out for a year or so, I'll switch if it makes sense.

Then again, I am holding out for the DX10 cards to become more popular. Kind of dumb to pay for a DX10 card and not have Vista running.

If you participated in the free upgrade program and you bought XP Home, then you will get Vista Home. If you got XP Pro, you'll get Vista Buisiness.

Agreed, I've been running the Beta since it's release. Office 2007 that is. And it's awesome. Excel alone is a brilliant upgrade to the world of spreadsheets. haha

Haven't seen anything in vista that makes me want to jump to the move

I've been running it since the official launch of the business versions back in November. Since the disc has all versions included, I just used my MSDN key to install Ultimate. I honestly haven't had too many problems, and have really enjoyed it.

BTW, the 1st service pack is being rushed through. It will have several features that were supposed to be on Vista at launch. It is expected in the 3rd quarter of 2007.

MS won't be releasing a new OS until 2012 (codename Avalon) so they plan to offer yearly updates and new features like Apple does with OSX.

My bros wife just bought a new laptop with vista installed, and they are hating it, most everything they use a computer for (gaming, etc), the programs are not compatible, and he told me this morning it was glitchy as hell, and alot slower than xp. They are planning to take it back.

You have to understand what it's doing. It's much like *nix has been for a VERY long time - that is, it's caching your physical RAM. Yes, it shows as in-use, however as soon as an application needs it, the OS releases it to that app. Now, I won't claim that Vista isn't tough on resources... but I've been using it since the business editions went live last year, and I think it's great. Just DO NOT upgrade from XP, nothing but horror stories with performance from those who have.

I'm very excited to see this in action, as i'm sitting on 4GB and when I dual booted 64bit XP, it didn't seem like much of a difference compared to 32bit XP.

I upgraded tonight, so far no real problems, though it didn't detect my Netgear wg311v3 wireless card, but got that fixed.

I'll let ya know what I think when I've run it for a while, it does seem a little sluggish tho.

I did an upgrade from XP Pro, just to see what all the hooplah was about. I'll probably wipe the drive and do a clean install too.

Which Vista? I had mediocre results on upgrading my dual core to Vista Basic, but when I upgraded to Vista Ultimate, it was much faster and recognized stuff faster.

I just bought a new Sony VAIO laptop with Vista Home Premium.

I haven't tried to print or anything, but it seems to run just fine so far.

I honestly think Vista is what XP should have been.

I bought the home premium full edition and installed it on my built PC. It runs great. Only trouble I had was with the D-Link wireless card. I changed over to Linksys and now no problems. Pretty cool if you ask me.

Ehh, I have had the release of it for a while via the MSDN and its not that great, great idea for loading drivers outside the kernel so if they crash they can be reloaded....kinda like a....Linux/Unix OS. Imagen that....

Yes, but instead of upgrading, I just bought a new computer with Vista Premium on it.

It looks great with my 20" widescreen monitor. Vista seems to run alot smoother so far. I like the look of it better than XP.

Just installed it on my main PC. Got $50 off a WD hard drive, free Altec Lansing speaker set and a free CD with it at Best Buy. Makes it more like $110 if you figure in the free stuff.

My Lexmark printer doesn't support Vista, I had to uninstall Adobe reader to check my bank balance and outlook says I don't have permission to view a folder and shuts down.

Other than these small hiccups it sure looks nice and works pretty smoothly otherwise. Make for damned sure you completely remove Nero from your machine before trying an upgrade, otherwise it adds atleast an hour to the process.

Yeah, most printers don't have Vista comatible drivers right now, but they should be out here pretty soon. Some dumbass guy at Circuit City was saying it was going to be late March before anyone had any drivers out for Vista.

so far only one issue.

My USB drive enclosure

Basically I can't access any of the information on my USB hard drive. The user accounts are all the same, the permissions are reset, I took ownership, etc...

Still not able to access it. I guess I'll have to plug it into another computer, pull the info off, and format it to FAT32.

My USB drive enclosure

Basically I can't access any of the information on my USB hard drive. The user accounts are all the same, the permissions are reset, I took ownership, etc...

Still not able to access it. I guess I'll have to plug it into another computer, pull the info off, and format it to FAT32.
I haven't had any trouble with my external USB hard drive or my iPod/iTunes.

it had to do with permissions I set.

Evidently the User SIDs changed, and the USB drive was not plugged in when I upgraded.

After dicking with the security permissions, and taking ownership 3-4 times, I'm finally able to access it.

Gotcha.

I'm finding it kind of odd that I'm not having any of these problems that other people are supposedly being plagued by.
