how do i know what kinda memory to by?

as far as DDR or whatever the other choices are, and speed also?

i have a compaq with a AMD sempron.

Input make, model info they will tell you what you need. Then use that info on www.pricewatch.com for the cheapest price.

Crucial also has a motherboard id tool that you can download to verify the types and amount of memory in your mobo and what your options are.

crucial.com is the best method, I agree. I don't even try to look anymore, I just go there.

you can also download a free program lize cpu z that will display all the detailed info about your chip, motherboard, and memory.

cpu z will even identify the serial number and manufacturer date on most ddr2 memory.

Go with Kingston Hyper X, I have 2 pc's running with them and i'm happy. One of mine is DDR and you can get them at Frys & MicroCenter for around $90 for 2 512 sticks.

Make sure your need DDR or DDR2 just look in the bios and it will tell you.
