XP Firewall

Do you trust it? This is the first PC I've owned w/ XP. I would normally use Zone Alarm's F.W.

Think you need to format/reinstall your OS(XP), read this first.

I don't run any software firewalls here at home, all PCs sit behind a dedicated hardware firewall ($35 compaq deskpro from a shop in Richardson). Never had any problems. I also centralize as much as I can, so the others in my house don't get behind due to their lack of checking for updates (MS critical patches, AV, etc).

it works well enough. why slow down the os by installing yet another app to run in the sys tray?

It works. I am actually using Nortons now but thats just because I got Norton Internet Security with this machine. I also have a hardware firewall.

i'd say just stay away from internet explorer at all costs and use firefox... internet explorer is swarmmed with holes and that just leads to spyware and a wholelotta confusion... thats just my opinion and experience though

HardOCP linked an article recently that showed that Firefox had just as many holes as IE. I'm of the mindset of "whatever you like," so don't take this as an endorsement of one or the other.

I already prefer FF in the first place. I had Fios installed on Monday and set up wireless. Having said that, does my router act as a Firewall?

Your antivirus isn't going to stop someone from using your machine for whatever they desire. Spammers, gamers, hackers, etc are always on the prowl. Some gamers are always looking for some sucker who's not running a firewall. You can never have enough quake servers.
