New Toy(s)

So I got tired of setting the wifeís laptop on top of my entertainment center and using the headphone jack to play MP3ís. I had been checking around for a media center extender that could do Video, MP3ís and photoís. Last weekend fryís had these on sale for $129:

I picked one up and it was great. I was perfectly happy with it. Then I found this:
http://TVersity.com

What that does is replace the server that D-Link sent with a much more functional server. You can actually watch streaming video off the internet on your TV using the D-Link. A little research and a program called URL Snooper and I had list of video feeds for all kinds of channels. Everything from HBO to exclusive online channels to TV from around to world can be found. Not everyone will think this is as cool as I do but I am pretty pumped about it.

Oh and TVersity will also work with your X-Box 360.

It looks like only certain routers work with this. Is that true? I've got a crappy dlink 524 do you know if I would have to upgrade?

I read an article in popscience about using your orig. xbox as a media center, after this meeting if i remember i'll go grab the article and post up the links. Didn't require soldering or anything.

there is a way to do that. I have several friends with that done. You can buy a media center extender for X-Box or mod chip it. Microsoft got smart and made this a standard feature in the 360

Should work with any router but you will need a media player. Any UPnP-AV (standard media player) should work but there is a list that work automaticly. the DSM-320RD is one of those.

Last night I was watching footy from the track and dyno off my hard drive. Then I watched skreemtv.com's rock channel.

This is all involving softmods, no soldering required. You have to buy a game that allows you to boot to linux, and then install the softmod thru a flashdrive.

I've got an XBOX with XBMC. I've downloaded the software listed above. I can get stuff from my pc to the xbox and onto the TV. The problem that I'm having is finding other content or streams. The TVersity software is blank except for a few sample directories as downloaded. Are there forums or other sources of information on how to access online streams?

Did you get to the forum on the download site? It's http://forums.tversity.com I don't know of any others. They have a forum just for links to content.

The way I use URL Snooper is I just google for "watch TV online free" Most of the time they embed the stream in a page surrounded by ads. run URL Snooper and start to capture. Look for links that start with mms:// or rtsp:// you may get several just try to copy one into explorer until you get one that opens up your media player and streams a TV Station. Add that stream to your Video URL's in tversity.
