flat panel monitors?

OK guys im still old schooling it as far as monitors. What could we find that is a good monitor in the 17-22 inch range. My laptop of a 17 inch widescreen so i atleast want bigger than 17 inch. What brands should we look for and what features. I just noticedc some lcd ones at bestbuy today but wanted to learn more about them before we jump in and buy.

What you might call solitude is something i look forward to.

2 important factors are the response time and contrast ratio. You cant really cross-compare contrast ratios between brands just because they dont test them the same. But the lower the response time, the better (look for lower than 8, but lower than 4 is really nice). Contrast ratio needs to be at least 600:1 to be decent.

Do you use your computer for any gaming and/or DVD playback? Response time will make the difference with these two applications. But if you will not use your monitor for either of the afore mentioned things, then you can get away with a bit slower response rate thus saving a few dollars.
Usually I have good experiences with Samsung and ViewSonic products.

You might look at cnet.com and review some of thier information before purchasing.

You might also hold out for after Thanksgiving Day sale. Frys has been having some good prices on Flat panels. I am hoping to get a second LCD during Thanksgiving sale.

I have a 19' Samsung Flat Panel & it has had a great picture. Best buy for around $250 awhile back. I do remember they had a weekend 24 hr sale and they were $180 @ Office Depot. Of course every store sold out in less than 5 min. @ 6am.
