looking to buy a new laptop (need help)

well my dad wants to buy a new one. It needs to be local and I will prolly be buyingit on Sunday or Monday. Prolly not to much more that $600-700. Its just going to be used at the house and we will prolly use it for the race car to.. It needs the shit out there to be able to hook up to the net at the house since we do have a wireless router. Prolly very little to no dowloading at all.

So if anyone can look on some bestbuy or circut city sites and see which one would i my needs. I really don't wnat to go down there and get talk into one byt them.

sounds like you need to look for one of those 400 dollar specials at Circuit City, because you don't need anything gaming, graphic, or application powerful. Just a plain old internet box.

Now if you are going to use it on the racecar, i'd make sure you get the right ports on the laptop to use with your software.

I agree with the other posts here. My Dad needed the samething and I helped him pick a deal a circuit city. Circuit city, best buy, costco...whatever has the best deal.

Keep in mind the ports though as mentioned above. If you'll use it for software that requires a serial connection, those serial connections are becoming rare these days. The newer (xcal2) has USB support....also there are USB to DB9 adapters. If you go with an adapter, do not go cheap. I've had major issues just doing minor things with the cheaper ones. IOGear seems to make the most reliable adapter.

Take care,
