Upgrading computer for new MS Flight Sim X

I need some opinions on how to upgrade my computer for the new MS Flight Sim X which comes out next month. I'll list the game requirements, what my current PC has, and I'm hoping ya'll can make some suggestions.

Game requirements:

# Microsoft® Windows® XP SP2 / Vista
# PC with 1 GHz equivalent or higher processor
# 256 MB of system RAM for Windows XP SP2 / 512 MB Vista
# 14 GB available hard disk space
# 32x speed or faster DVD-ROM drive
# 32 MB DirectX 9 compatible video card required

My Computer:

Pentium 4 2.26 GHz
768MB ram
PNY GeForce FX5700VE:
Interface Type: AGP 8X / 4X
Graphics Core: NVIDIA® CineFX 2.0
GPU Clock rate: 425 MHz
Video Memory: 256MB DDR
Memory Data Rate: 400 MHz
RAMDAC Clock Speed: 400 MHz

I was thinking a better video card and maybe adding another 512mb of ram would be enough but I want some opinions. I was looking at this card http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814143045 since there's a rebate on it right now. Any help?

This card also: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814133176

Most of these say they require a minimum 350W power supply. How do I tell the wattage of mine?

That game will kick your computer's ass. Have you tried the demo yet? If not, do so.

My computer:

AMD 4800+ X2
ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe
2GB PC3200
GeForce 6800GT (256mb PCI-E)
120GB SATA
400GB SATA
X-Fi Platinum Sound Card
480W PSU

And at the higher detail levels it gives even my computer a hard time...

Yeah I've tried the demo and it's not too bad. I'm well aware that on higher detail levels it would kick my computers ass, which is why I'm looking for suggestions.

First I know I'll need a new video card, which then looks like I'll need a new power supply, and more RAM. That's if I can somehow delete 6gig worth of shit on my computer to fit this game. It looks like it's going to cost me alot just to play this damn game.

O rly?

Most game's temp files don't run in excess of 3-5gb. Didn't imagine the game itself would take up 10-12gb. But I havn't seen the demo yet.

It kinda sucks, but it is a very demanding game. The physics are somewhat improved over FS2004, the visual upgrades are the major selling point.

I would try to have at least 1GB of ram, a 256MB video card (a GT series, NOT a GS), and a larger HDD. Power supplies can be found for cheap. I say dont spend more than $400-450

What's the difference between the GS and GT? I've seen both but most on Newegg are GS. I was looking at both the 6800GS and the 7600GS.

I'd guess the 7600 might be a better choice and at least a newer generation. I'll have to see how my 2800 and 6600gt hold up to the demo.

my 6800GT will outperform a 7600GS. The GT has a higher core clock speed and more pixles per cycle than the GS.

I think I decided on this 7600GT because it's the only AGP version I can find:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814122009

This power supply:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817103455

And another 512mb of Kingston RAM.

It looks like I'll need a new hard drive too unless I can somehow delete 5gig worth of shit With so many hard drives out there, can anyone recommend a brand that's not too expensive and not too big? (100 gig would be plenty)

Is it even worth upgrading my 4-year old Dell with all this stuff or should I just start from scratch? This has been a really good computer.

thats your call. its definitely cheaper to upgrade, but you will be ahead of the curve with a brand new box (new CPU socket, PCI-E, DDR2, etc)

might be worth a look at a new box.

I'm not buying another agp card myself. everything new is pcix but that requires a new board, cpu, ram, and video.

I've already got a new 160gb sata drive and a nice tower with 550w ps so for now my 2800 amd and 6600gt will do.
