Playstation 2 repair help??? (not disk read error)

THIS IS NOT A DISK READ ERROR.
OK here’s the deal. I have a PS2 Slimline that I have had for less than a year. About 6 weeks ago it stopped working. When I put a disk in it does not see the disk. The disk never spins at all. The laser moves back and forth and sets itself at the home position when the door is closed but the drive never spins. I was pretty sure a new drive assembly would fix it so I ordered one off of Ebay. When I put the new drive it I had the same problem. Now I am at a loss. Anyone have any ideas of what to look for next?

I would've just warranted it. You're looking at something beyond my realm of expertise on this one. My best guess is a firmware issue or power issue. Try putting in an audio cd and see if it reads and tries to spin.

It's not under warrenty. I've tried all kinds of disks. Nothing spins up.

Have you tried contacting the Playstation people? They fixed mine for free twice and sent me a free replacement once (and it was more than a year old).

I actually called them today but I was at work so I couldn't get much help. I'll call them when I get home. Maybe they'll hook me up.

Where can I get one for $99? I know Walmart has them for $129.

Yeah, your best bet would have been calling Sony the first time. Now If you opened it up they might not fix it. On second thought...I think my PS2 that they fixed had been opened and then had the sticker put back on in a very sloppy way and they still did it.

Hey, Thanks for the Info. I called them and I mailed it in friday. I'm about to send my old PS2 from the first day they came out in for $45.

I honestly didn't think it was still under warenty so I cracked it open. My fault, I'll pay the $45 to exchange it for a refurb. Better than $129 for a new one. I buy refurbished goods whenever I can anyway. I work in the electronics industry and see how all the known issues get fixed on a refurb.
