friggin kids! please help.

my 10 year old daughter somehow managed to create 2 different user accounts on MY desktop. (when you first startup XP) one for her, one for me and the wife. normally i would simply ask her for her password, (gotta keep an eye on your kids , you know) but she is away at church camp and i probly wont get to speak to her for a few days. I am not a computer guy, so i dont know to much. could one of you guys (in laymans terms) explain to me how to log on to her account? i dont mind her having her space, but i need to know what she's doing in there. every time i turn on the news, its a new report on these child molestin' internet weirdos.
please advise.

If she created a user that is also an ADMIN I don't think you can get on unless you know the PW?

Goto your control panel,

Click on user accounts,

Click hers once and see if you can edit the password?

doesnt look like you can do it that way. it just keeps saying to ask the administator for help. and SHE's the administator! gonna have a little chat with her about this.

i read there is a program for this situation, its a disk that somehow lets you get back on your computer if you forget the admin password, look around the web, i don't know the name of it but it can't be too hard to find

So, if you go into control panel and click User Accounts you get the message? If you can get in there, click Change User Account, click her account, and you should have an option for Do Not require password or remove password. By default, when you create an account it is an administrator so if she locked you out, she just punked you.

There are ways to recover a password, but they work better in domain environments. I have not used this on a home computer and do not know what the oucome would be. Either way, that tool lets you reset the account password. It does not tell you what it is.

If she is the Admin user and you are like a guest account level user, you're pretty much screwed without the password. You should always make another Admin level account that you don't really use, for situations like this, loading software, etc.

Yep. And after you figure it out, they best way to monitor her activity is to use some sort of spyware or keylogger or something. Our daughter really is a good girl but it's all the pervs that bother me....and frankly she is WAY past me on the whole computer building/editing/whatever else crap there is. This is when I find it good that Mike (the user of this account lol) Is a hacker/computer nuthead.

i have several copies of this program (so if i lost one, it'd be ok) It's a linux based program that loads when you boot your pc, it will allow you to change ANY user password in windows.

http://www.sysinternals.com/

somewhere on that site is where you can download it. I looked a while back and couldn't find it, may have better luck now. It's an ISO file so you just have to use nero or something to copy the image to a cdr.

Just restart and press the "F8" key, boot windows into safe mode and log into the admin account. There is no preset password so just click on it. Then go to user accounts in the control panel and reset them. I have used that many times on many systems.
