PS2 problems...

I have a playstation 2 and its been a while since I've played it. But a friend of mine gave me a few games so I decided to check them out. The problem is when I put the disc in or any disc for that matter it randomly decided if it wants to work or not. If it doesn't work it makes this weird noise, if you hit/tap on the case it changes the noise a bit and sometimes it will fix it. Once the game/movie is playing it goes fine, but starting it up is becoming a pain in the a$$. You think its just dirty or something? It kinda sounds like the laser that slides across is getting hung or someting, and its just "popping" the plastic gears gears or something. I dunno, any suggestions?

Damn, alright. that sucks. The guy at work told me the same thing and that it happens with the older ones when they are used for dvd's and there played too long. I've never heard of that but o well. Thanks for the info. I may try and set it up on its side for now, until it goes out completely.
