Just loaded windows 2000 Pro on an old computer, now it wont recognize modem?

This is an old HP pavillian, 400 mhz and a 12.7 gig hard drive. We were having problems with the window's 98 that came on it, so I installed Windows Professional on it. All is good except it will not find the modem. Since it will not recognize the modem, how do I find the model of it so I can download the drivers from the Net?

it will most likely be labeled on the modem if you open the case.

May give that a try, I was just trying to avoid having my friend bring it back to me. I am puter stupid. But I got it going for him. It was crashed and would not even bring up windows. It's always something.

My brother in law had a similar vintage hp that was originally a 98 box and it was a pain in the ass to get 2k loaded on it. Some stuff didnt even have drivers for it. If possible you might give XP a try if its got a decent amount of ram in it.

I hate 2k for driver support.

I guess this is a good shot at what it is.......

Lucent Win Modem

or

LT Data/Fax Modem

This modem appears in nearly all HP Pavilions made since 2001. For the most up-to-date Lucent Win modem driver for any version of Windows, use Microsoft Windows Update .

Shit, I have been looking for free drivers and all require a free suscription that will sent you a shit load of spam on debt consolidaters and other stuff. Filled out the same form 3 times on Modem-drivers.com and still could not get it right. I emailed them and told them their sight is a pain in the ass

Requires 256 MB of ram just remember that if you are gonna get xp just make sure your comp has that much. A old ass computer like that I doubt it does though.
