nvidia driver update on linux - need help

welp, finally got stuck, went to install nvidia linux drivers for my 6200 and had problems with the gcc, make, and kernel-source packages, installed them and went back to telinit 3 to run the installer as root, installed and recompiled the kernel with absolutely no probs, when the installation finished it wouldnt load the gui version of linux, when i type "startx" i get a "no screens found" error, found out its something with the config and how i have to edit it, this is where i'm stuck, i dont know how to do anything from this command line (what a waste of unix class)

i just want the desktop gui thingy working again!!! i posted some questions over at the nvidia linux site too so that pc will sit there until i either learn to fix it myself or have somebody do it for me thnx in advance

i used emacs, after i messed with it for a minute on the other monitor i changed the res and it screwed it up for both until i edited the xorg.conf with emacs, got a good refresh on this stuff thats for sure... finally got bf2 running it sure was alot of trouble, winxp definately has the advantage, i just wanted to see it for myself, i'll probably stick with linux on this one but would like to try suse again or maybe even mac osx for the audio/video programs it has

i remember vi though, was the first one they taught us, i knew there had to be a better one by now

Nothing is better then vi if you want any easy one.. there is pico which is much easier then emacs or vi.
