Software to format an external USB HD...

Any ideas? I've got a program on a floppy disk from work that I use to wipe my C: Drive with but I do not think it will work on an external drive. I've got some HD's I want to wipe clean and make sure that nothing personal remains on them. Any ideas?

Format them 8 times.

If you formatted it using different cluster sizes each time that might at least make it more challenging.

1 format is all you really need. The only people that are going to pull data after that are people with forensics gear. 16 formats ( i.e. putting everything to 0's, then everything to 1's again ) I believe is Government standard. Doing a NTFS long format ( not the quick format ), is Government standard formating.

It varies per classification. I think on the secret level stuff we had some app loop 4 or 6 times. I did not have to use it often, since I only ran servers that did not need formatting often.

Take care,
