I just got a new laptop. What do ya think???

I actually bought it at FRY's for $539 with a free all in one Printer. but this website had the best info on it. Already upgraded it to 1GB of ram ($60) which made it come alive and up graded the graphics. Planning on putting a 7200 rpm Harddrive in it tonight ($40).

I've never been a big fan of Compaq but as long as you can get support, you're set. Nice laptop...

Not leading edge but like you said pop some memory into it and it would do fine for people that don't need a top of the line laptop. Looks like a good deal for students or grandparents that want to send e-mails and write letters.

Interesting what you can get for your money if you look hard. Last Friday FRYS was advertising an HP laptop with a 15" XVGA screen, Win XP home, double layer DVD burner, 512 meg of ram, stereo sound and the usual USB ports and stuff...nice little computer...for I think 699 after a 50 dollar rebate. Thats a lot of laptop for 699.

FUCK Canada

Well i threw a Gig of ram in it last night and it plays battlefield 2 nicely. I'm extremely happy with it for $539. + $60 for a Gig of ram.

Sounds like a heck of a deal. I'm waiting on my additional desktop I ordered on the company nickel to arrive from dell.

I've already got a D600 2.0 1gb ram,60gb hd but I needed a high powered desktop for my security tools, forensics etc.

Not really the best deal i've come across, But it was in my price range and does everything i need out of a mobile computer. I have a nice desktop at home for the real work.

I loaded OO on the wife's laptop and it is "ok".

For what you are doing i'd submit a request for the real deal, along with the 1gb of memory you really need.

Pretty nice for the price. I know some people that work for IBM and they've given me a password that takes 20% off the final price of the laptop so I'm waiting until I have some more cash in my account before buying it.

I've never owned a laptop and everyone has their own horror stories about each company, but I figure if many top end businesses get their employees IBM laptops, there must be a good reason and I'd rather shell out the extra cash for it.

I have a T40 Thinkpad.... i love it. It has a 1.3 Pentium M with Centrino and i swear its faster than the 1.8 AMD in this thread.
