heatsink help

for the past couple of days the heatsink on my 6600gt has starting making whirring sounds, kinda like a small revving sound. is this a sign that it is about to fail?

also, how can i manage the heat in my case, since i only have one 80mm venting fan?

thanks,
taylor

is the card OC by chance?? and just go to your local computer store and get more fans ....they have more slots in your case for more then one fan....make sure to get a faster one ..but make sure it is QUIET sieries other wise when you turn on your puter ..it will sound like a plane taking off

To me, clowns aren't funny. In fact, they're kind of scary. I've wondered where this started and I think it goes back to the time I went to the circus, and a clown killed my dad.

that is not true at all ...just cut more holes if you need to ...a spot is at the top of your computer .. aka Blow hole ..and have it blowing out ..since heat rises this is a really good place for one.....also take your card out and look at it ...make sure everything is ok on it ..you might just need to adjust the plastic screw or somthing

One of the many reasons I went to water cooling!

The 6600GT fan will spin up faster if the gpu is not cool enough. Normally this is a byproduct of using fins in the heat sink. Dust will build up in the fins and and more air will have to be pushed to cool the gpu. Air out and you should be back to normal.
