Wireless print servers

Any of y'all have an extra laying around you will sell? I priced them today and they're a hundred bucks. I want one, but not that bad.

I don't really see much use in them... especially not for $100. Just have it hooked up to any one of the computers on your network (preferrably one that stays on all the time), and share it out. It's basically the same thing.

The initial thoughts were that I didn't have a place for the printer and a pc, since I was trying to eliminate clutter. I was going to hide the printer in the laundry room and just have a box and monitor in the living room. I guess y'all are right, and I'll go ahead and setup a whole setup in there, turn in on, set it up, and then just pull the monitor.

Can I remote boot that pc with no monitor or will I have to plug a monitor back in every time since it will be password protected on boot? Is that even necessary?

Yeah, definatly password protect it if its in the laundry room. You never know the intentions of the sock that misteriously disappears from the wash.

Haha, there's no need to password protect the pc hooked up as the print server, if that's all it's going to do. Just set windows up to bypass the login/welcome screen. Hell, you could even set up one of your old computers that's just collecting dust (assuming you have some), just through win98 on it or something, share out the printer, and you're good to go.

I have a working AMD-K5 100 Mhz PC with Windows 98 just collecting dust. With mouse, keyboard and 15" monitor. You can have it for $20.

Lmao. Some of those socks are meeeaaan man.

Lol, I am probably too worried about the network being broached, and as a result go overboard with that stuff.

On the old pcs, thanks for the offer. I have a 450 that I will put on the printer, and an 850 that I haven't found a location for. Also my neighbor just gave me a server that I may try and setup. Don't need it, but what the hell?
